sleep . . .

What an incredible concept . . . sleep. And, back to the change concept too.

On Sunday, we went to church, as usual. It was Katie’s first time to our church home here in Nairobi. We had to wake her up, get her dressed (which she hates having her trunk exposed), get her in the car seat (she is doing better with that), and then of course as soon as we got to church and got settled, she wanted to feed. Out to the car Katie and I go. A full belly, two dirty diapers, and an hour later, we go back into church, where she falls asleep in her Daddy’s arms. What better place to be?!!!

We had interrupted her flow, however, made her experience change, and generally irritated her for ONE morning. And, we all suffered for it for the next 36 hours. The rest of the day and the ENTIRE next day (that would be yesterday), she was all out of sorts, had too much gas and could not get settled down. She would eat, fall asleep, sleep for one hour or so, then wake back up with gas. And start the whole process over again. I try not to feed her when that happens, but sometimes the only thing that will calm her down is me. Then, she was awake from 3.30-7.30pm, crying if not in someone’s arms. Poor thing!

However, there is a redeeming part to this story . . . she slept for TWELVE hours last night! Was in a gassy fit, and fell asleep at 7.30pm . . . writched (not exactly a word, but one we use, meaning moved somewhat uncomfortably) around a few times during the night, crying out once or twice, but did not wake to be fed until 7.30am! WOW!!!!! Now, granted, I did get lots of sleep, just in between the writching times. Then, of course, I would lay there and wonder if she was going to wake up more, then would finally fall back to sleep. Please don’t get me wrong, I am VERY happy that I did not have to be awake for TWO hours during the night with her. But, will be glad when she is in her own room.

We are still waiting to get Cristiana moved up to the attic, to “my new room”, so we can put Katie into the little room. Cristiana has been excited about this since WAY BACK WHEN, but it may be a different story when it all comes down to it. We are going to change the rooms on a long weekend, when Rod can be home and able to get up the stairs quickly for her if needed. And, of course, during a time when it doesn’t matter if he gets sleep or not.

It was so cute when we first arrived home, Cristiana wanted Katie to sleep in her bed, because that was going to be Katie’s bedroom. And, Cristiana was going to sleep in the big bed in the guest room in the attic. Funny how we never thought to explain to her that her furniture would go into her new room with her, and Katie’s pack and play would go into the room with her to sleep. Again, her mind works in very interesting ways.
