life back in nairobi

We have now been home for a week, and the house is STILL a huge mess. We had SIX suitcases coming back from Doha (two from my Mom for the girls!), and then a container shipment came that we had sent up to Pearl River back in July. We had one HUGE box full of hand-me-down clothes for Cristiana and Annie (house help’s daughter), two action packers, and one HUGE duffle in that shipment. I finally got the living room “livable”, which is nice. Then, I have been working on getting toiletries put away, since we had a pile of them in the container stuff. It is always funny how I forget what is in the container, and then “order” more, so my Mom brought some of the same stuff. Now, I don‘t think I need anything for the next year!

The rest of the house, though, is now full of full suitcases. I am simply not getting things put away. The funny thing about being back home is that we were really only partially ready for Katie. So, the first few days were spent getting things moved around and accessible for Katie as well. The suitcases were unpacked and then REpacked. Cristiana’s clothes are in a suitcase in her room, Katie’s stuff is in the study where her changing table is, school stuff is in a suitcase sitting on the floor in the study, and on and on and on. We have to step over things to get anywhere upstairs. I know that it will all eventually get put away, but hopefully Katie will not be too big for the clothes in her suitcase by the time I get it all done! :-)

Thanks for your prayers over the last months, and over last week when we were travelling. It was an easy flight. We were in the back, and then the flight attendants got the man in the bulk head to move and let us all sit there. It was really nice because we had the bassinet then and Katie slept most of the time.

A friend recently said, “it’ll all get sorted out before long and then you can hopefully just exhale and not have to take another really deep breath for a long time!” (Thanks Menda!) That is a huge prayer request right now.

Rod is very busy, too. He had a flight the day after we got home, leaving at 3.00am and not getting back home until late that night. Then, he was scheduled for a six day Samaritan’s Purse flight, but the airplane broke on the first day. They were grounded in Loki, and came home the next day. I am never happy when an airplane breaks, but this time I was. Very selfishly, I was. I was glad that he could come home and help with Katie (see “gassy girl” post).
