For me, Michelle, change has always been a good thing. Many times throughout my adult life I have craved it, and still do . . . often. I go through the house and think, okay, it is time to move, even if it is just down the street! But, when one moves over 20 times in 20 years, it would seem that “moving” is a normal thing. Being here in Kenya has shown me something different. We lived in the first house here for two years and two months. Now, we have been here on the compound for three years and nine months (no I am not counting the days!). I did have to do some redecorating at two years just to make it feel like it was a newer place, and am glad that I did, as the study/schoolroom/office is one of my favorite rooms in the house now.
For Cristiana, change has not been an issue either. So far, she has really adapted well to pretty much wherever we go. Be that on home leave and travelling, be that two months in Khartoum, be that two months in Doha in two different places, or where ever we have taken her.
Katie, on the other hand, after leaving the hospital at FOUR days old, took over 24 hours to get used to the apartment in Doha! Then, after getting back here to Nairobi, it took her over 36 hours. Hmmmmmm, I wonder how long it will take her to get used to a new place when we go on home leave next year! Maybe we should take her on short weekend trips over the time in order to get her used to new places. Or, maybe we should just wait and see what happens.
