settling in

We are doing well. Settling back into life in Nairobi. Rod has been very busy with flying, but that is the way it goes right before one leaves or right after one gets back. Just the nature of the game here. He has worked the last two Saturdays but has taken those last two Mondays off.

Yesterday he had to take Osa into the vet. She started chewing through the pad of her right front paw again. The doc had to sedate her, and then tried to get the infection out of her paw. Cristiana was there the whole time and just gently talking to her. Rod always takes her with him to the vet -- she LOVES it. She is such an animal lover. She now has a bandage on her foot, and will be kept in the back yard for the next few days. She is doing better, though. Poor thing, I had a dream the other night that she died, I was VERY sad. She is like a sister to Cristiana.

I have been sick with a bad head cold since last Thursday. I have been in and out of bed since. Sunday I spent half of the day in bed, the other half was spent on the couch. I have been taking couch drops, but nothing more since I can't with the baby. I had to explain to Cristiana that I am unable to take anything. She asked if I needed to take her "yucky red medicine". :-) I told her that no, since she takes a child's medicine, and I usually take an adults medicine, that I should not take anything because it would need to be a baby medicine or it would be too much for the baby. I think she understood, cuz the look on her face said so. She is so mature! She understands so much now. And, she is much less afraid of things than she used to be. It is neat to see her grow up!

My biggest prayer, though, right now with being sick, is that it does not turn into pneumonia and put me in the hospital again. I have been very good at keeping liquids (with Vit C) in me, and keeping out of cold air. Rod has kept a fire going the last two days -- and even started one before he left for work this morning -- so that the air stays warmer in the house. I sleep under the covers with the warm, but somewhat stuffy, air just to keep it all warm. Poor Rod has had to sleep in the attic, but he does not mind. Mainly so that he does not get sick, and then also so we both sleep well since the fan is turned off. Yes, it has been cold here -- in the 60s in the morning, but remember we live in a block house with no central air -- heat or cold.

I have not had as much nausea the last few days, but I am not sure if that is because of the head cold or because I am over that stage of the pregnancy. I did have vertigo last week for a few days, which was not fun, but have just been trying to keep things going slow around here. I have not been out much, which is fine by me. I get things done that need to be done, and the rest, well it will get done some day! :-)

I have been working on getting things ready for school. I am cutting out this felt set for a Bible curriculum that I have. It has been neat to watch Cristiana get so excited about using it. She can't wait to start school. It has been good to have a month to put all of the resources together that we have collected over the last year. And, to see how it is all working together. We'll see how it all works once we get started. :-) First, though, I need to get my voice completely back and not strain it so I can read to her for a few hours during the day. Reading will be a major part of the whole “school day”, even though the school day is ALL day long including life. :-)

Cristiana has found a new favorite movie, “Cars”, that we borrowed from a friend. So, she is down watching that. She woke up at 6.30 this morning and Rod had to plug her in while he got ready and I was still asleep. She has been VERY good at not waking me up in the mornings, but going up to the attic to her playroom and playing with her toys. She is such a good kid!
